Postman Pat artist delivers first class show for children

Artist Ray Mutimer has created illustrations of some of the best loved characters in children’s literature.

His illustrations of childhood favourites including Postman Pat are being brought to life in an exhibition in the stable block at Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, near York.

Mr Mutimer has created the illustration’s for the well-loved Postman Pat picture books for children, plus all the artworks for the eight Postman Pat annuals and many more publications. The exhibition also features illustrations from some of Mr Mutimer’s other well-known illustrated children’s characters including Rupert Bear, Charlie Chalk and Tales and Rhymes full of witches, fairies and dragons, first published in 1999 and recently reprinted.

Along with completed works there are sketch boards to show how Mr Mutimer’s initial pencil drawings progress into artworks ready for publication.

Sue Jordan, learning officer at Beningbrough, said: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to host one of the country’s leading illustrators here.”

The exhibition will run until Sunday, September 15.

On Saturday, September 14, the artist will visit the hall to do a book signing and on this day Beningbrough Hall and Gardens will offer free entry between 11am–5.30pm.
