Postmen deliver for air ambulance

A GROUP of postmen from Bradford are launching a fundraising effort to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after medics saved a colleague’s life.

Postman Mick Duffy was out with his racing pigeons at Leathley, near Otley, when he had a heart attack in March.

He called his wife, Janet, who phoned an ambulance. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance managed to airlift him to hospital for emergency treatment.

His rescue was filmed for the BBC series “Helicopter Heroes” which follows the work of the Air Ambulance.

As a thank you to the paramedics and pilots, Mick’s colleagues from West Bradford delivery office are launching their own fundraising scheme. A team of five postmen and women will be trying to wear shorts throughout the winter to raise as much money as possible.

Mick said: “The level of support from everyone at work has been amazing since I was taken ill.

“I can’t believe the wonderful work that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance do.

“Without their help I would have been in very serious danger because of where I was when I was taken ill and the fact I needed urgent medical treatment fast.”
