Potentially dangerous fake Frozen dolls found on sale in West Yorkshire shop

Parents who may have bought the fake merchandise from the hit Disney film – including Anna and Elsa and Olaf the Snowmnan figures – are being urged to destroy them.

And parents are being asked to report details of where they were bought to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.

The dolls may contain potentially harmful chemicals known as phthalates, which have been banned by the European Union for use in toy manufacture since 1999.

Disney has confirmed the products, which were imported from China and have no manufacturer or importer details, are counterfeit.

Trading standards officers say fake Frozen dolls have flooded in to the country in the last few months.

These are the first fake dolls found in West Yorkshire.

David Lodge Head of West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said: “Persons who put profit before safety by recklessly importing fake merchandise face hefty penalties if caught, including a maximum jail term of 10 years or an unlimited fine.”

Coun Andrew Pinnock, of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said: “I urge parents who think they may have purchased one of these items to remove it from children, destroy it responsibly and report the matter to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.’

The fake dolls are recognisable by their low price of £9.99 compared to the genuine item’s price of around £35.

The fake products do not have UK or European importer details and ‘Disney’ is misspelt as ‘Disnfy’ on the front of the packaging.
