Prescott to get tour of new landmark secondary school

LORD Prescott will be given a tour around what will soon become one of Hull’s eye-catching new generation of schools when he visits Andrew Marvell Business and Enterprise College today.

The school is being rebuilt on the school’s existing site in Barham Road in a £27m project as part of the city’s Building Schools for the Future programme.

Lord Prescott, who will be shown around by headteacher Kevin Lister, will be accompanied by Lyn Jackson, project manager for Hull Council, Roy Perry, her counterpart at construction firm Morgan Sindall, and Sam Whitaker, general manager at Hull Esteem Consortium, which is delivering the bulk of the BSF programme on the council’s behalf.

Mr Whitaker said; “We are thrilled that Lord Prescott has taken the time out of his busy schedule to come down and visit the school.

“The work taking place there is fantastic and will result in a truly inspirational school that local young people will benefit from for decades to come.

“To have such a high profile supporter is really encouraging for everyone involved with Andrew Marvell Business and Enterprise College and the BSF programme in general.”

The school is due to open in January 2013.

The scheme will see every secondary and special school in the city rebuilt or remodelled in a £380m Government-funded project.

Sirius Academy and Ganton Special School, which share the same site in west Hull, were the first to be completed and opened their doors for the new term this month.
