Prescott warns over spending

JOHN Prescott has urged Labour to take inspiration from Hull City’s unlikely victory over big spending Manchester City this weekend when it comes to the general election battle.

The former Deputy Prime Minister, MP for Hull East, warned cash-strapped Labour will be fighting against a Tory war chest as rallied party activists.

But insisting Labour can still win a fourth term, he likened the contest to this weekend’s 2-1 win by hard-up Hull City, managed by Phil Brown, over Manchester City who have spent millions of pounds on players this season.

“It’s good to be an underdog,” said Mr Prescott at a Labour conference. “We saw a team of underdogs led by Brown, attacked by the press, take on a team of millionaires who play in blue. No-one gave the underdogs a chance.”
