Prestigious venue for gay pride event

A GAY pride festival which caused controversy in Doncaster last year is to go ahead at the town's racecourse in 2010, with organisers insisting the it is here "to stay".

Doncaster's mayor Peter Davies said he would not fund minority projects such as Doncaster Pride when he was elected last year, but cash has

been found for the event.

Last year's march through the streets of the town and the concerts which followed it attracted more than 8,000 people, and chairman of the organising committee, Trevor Jones, said the move was exciting.
