Prince to be festival patron

THE Prince of Wales is to become patron of Yorkshire's biggest arts event, the Harrogate International Festival.

Prince Charles agreed to become the festival's patron for at least five years after being approached by its president, Dame Fanny Waterman. It is the first time in the festival's 44-year history that it has had a royal patron, and organisers are hoping the Prince will attend at least one of this summer's events. There are also plans to establish a annual gala concert in his name.

Dame Fanny said: "Prince Charles has great affection for Harrogate Royal Hall and took a great deal of interest in its restoration, and we are very proud to have him as our patron."
