Prince Charles and Camilla to visit culture city

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are to visit Hull on February 8, Clarence House announced this morning.

The tour, which takes place as the city celebrates its year in the spotlight as City of Culture 2017 will take in the newly-reopened Ferens Art Gallery as well as Holy Trinity Church.

The royal couple will also visit literacy charity First Story at The Deep and The Royal Shakespeare Company outreach programme at the Goodwin Development Trust.

Thousands turned out to see Prince Charles and Camilla when they last visited East Yorkshire in 2013.

On their latest visit they will meet staff at the Ferens and local artists whose work is on display in the gallery’s Open Exhibition as well as members of the Hull 2017 team , the Osprey osteoporosis research charity and Children in the Arts.

Hull Council leader Coun Steve Brady said: “We are delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to the city at the start of our year as UK City of Culture and it is great to see that some of the most important local projects in Hull will be recognised during the visit.”

Hull 2017 CEO Martin Green added: “It is wonderful that Hull will be able to welcome their Royal Highnesses in this important year for the city. As well as being an opportunity to see the impact of the council’s investment in the public realm and the Ferens Art Gallery I am delighted they will be visiting some of the community based projects that are happening around the city.”
