Prince Edward visits youth centre in Halifax

He arrived in Calderdale by helicopter earlier this afternoon before being given a tour of the facilities at the award-winning centre.

The Queen’s youngest son unveiled a plaque in the atrium at Orangebox and said: “Thanks to everyone here who has been so generous with their time today to tell me about what goes on here. It really is fanastic to hear about your work.

“This plaque isn’t nearly as exciting as what you’re doing here for young people, but let’s everybody pretend and give a big cheer!”

The Prince was greeted by the Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ferman Ali, as well as the Director of Orangebox Emily Pearson, among others.

Ms Pearson said: “It’s an honour to have Prince Edward here today and it’s a really exciting time for Orangebox.

“We have some amazing facilities here but what we’d like now is for the community to get behind the building and adopt it.”

There are a range of spaces in the centre for young people to use, including a state-of-the-art recording studio, rooftop skatepark, indoor bouldering wall and cafe.

Orangebox also hold regular events and are hoping to expand their calendar over the coming months with the help of local groups.
