Prince takes centre stage at Glastonbury

The Prince of Wales followed in the footsteps of David Bowie, Jay-Z and Bruce Springsteen as he graced the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival yesterday.

Prince Charles received a rock tar's welcome as he toured 900-acre Worthy Farm, in Pilton, Somerset, raucous revellers cheering and applauding his every move. The royal visit prompted calls for a knighthood for festival founder Michael Eavis, who accompanied the Prince.

Hundreds of revellers swarmed round the Royal visitor as he toured the site, cameras in hand, bemused by the unexpected guest.

On the Pyramid Stage – the centrepiece of the Glastonbury Festival – the Prince greeted members of the festival management team, as well as backstage staff, the artist liaison team and farm management members.

The field by tonight will be full of some 100,000 music fans.
