Princess Royal to see thriving horticultural project on visit

PRINCESS Anne will visit a horticultural project which employs people with learning disabilities as part of a tour of South Yorkshire later this week.

The Princess Royal will travel to Adwick Le Street, near Doncaster, to see the work of Adwick Community Enterprise (ACE), which is supported by Doncaster Council.

As well as her engagement in Doncaster, she will visit the Chimo Holdings Cutlery Factory, at Sheffield’s White Rose Works, in Eyre Lane.

She will return to the city later in the day to open the Exchange Brewery Adsetts Partnership Building, in Bridge Street.

Manager of ACE Elaine Sherwood said: “We are honoured that The Princess Royal will be visiting Adwick Community Enterprise.

“We believe everyone has something positive to contribute to society and have skills that can be developed for fulfilling and interesting lives.

“Our service users really enjoy their work here and are looking forward to showing The Princess Royal what they do.”

Princess Anne will be shown a storyboard depicting the history of ACE before being given a tour of the greenhouses where service users will be working. She will then unveil a plaque.

Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies will also attend the event, along with the town’s civic mayor Christine Mills and the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire David Moody.

Mr Davies said: “Everyone should have an opportunity to gain access to employment or training and be able to develop their skills whatever the personal challenges they face.

“Adwick Community Enterprise does fantastic work, and offers high quality products and services all year round.

“It is encouraging that Her Royal Highness has decided to visit and see the life changing work Adwick Community Enterprise does through employment and training.”

ACE provides training and jobs in horticulture for people who would ordinarily find it difficult to get a job or find a place on a course.

It is run as a business and sells plants, shrubs, trees, garden supplies and garden furniture made by its employees.
