Protests over golf driving range plan

people are protesting against plans for a golf driving range which they fear will shatter the tranquillity of a hidden corner of East Yorkshire.

Developers Derwent Holdings Ltd want to build a single-storey building for the range with associated parking and landscaping on two fields south of the former De La Pole Hospital.

In spite of being sandwiched between Willerby and Cottingham, the area is quiet and agricultural in nature. Residents say the range will also conflict with Haltemprice Crematorium next door.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said: "Everybody round here is up in arms about it. It will spoil the tranquillity of the area.

"Relatives come to the crematorium to remember their loved ones but right in front of it people will be hitting golf balls about. It's just not on. It will also cause even heavier congestion in the area especially at the junction onto the main road."

A previous application for a driving range was thrown out following complaints a couple of years ago.

Residents have until the beginning of May to make any objections to East Riding Council.
