Protests in store at Asda as farmers step up campaign for higher prices

PROTESTS over low prices paid to farmers are set to continue this week as a campaigning group prepares to target Leeds-based retailer Asda.

The Farmers for Action organisation has announced that it will hold protests outside Asda premises, including some in Yorkshire, this week.

David Handley said: "Asda seem determined to keep bringing their prices down – that's what the protests will be all about. We do not want to punish the consumer, we want to benefit the consumer by giving them more great home produced food and drink."

A spokeswoman for Asda said: "We're well-known for the partnership approach we have with British farmers, particularly in the dairy sector.

"All of our milk is supplied via an exclusive relationship with a group of farmers in the Asda-dedicated supply chain, and we pay a premium for doing so."
