Proud father ready to cheer on boy for whom he sacrificed a kidney

When Jonathan Bowers donated a kidney to his son Connor, the organ was not all he gave up.

He also gave up his telecommunications business to take him on the 110-mile round trips to his dialysis appointments up to four times a week for a year.

But despite losing the wealth he and his family once enjoyed, they have never been richer now Connor is a healthy 18-year-old with his life ahead of him..

“I just can’t complain, because my son is alive. I would do it all over again,” said the 42-year-old, from Pickering.

Connor was six when he was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy and his kidneys failed when he was 14, prompting his father’s selfless gift.

Since then, Connor’s recovery has been incredible and he is looking forward to taking part in the Transplant Games in August.
