£1 bet nets shop punter £1m payout

A MAN from Bradford has scooped £1m after a £1 bet at the bookies.

The lucky punter, who has asked not to be named, has previously won 10,000 but he hit the jackpot when he became Ladbrokes' first shop millionaire.

The mystery customer scooped the massive windfall after correctly predicting all six numbers in the lotto-based game of "49's".

His psychic achievement blows infamous World Cup predictor, Paul the Octopus, out of the water.

It is the first time a Ladbrokes' betting shop customer has won 1m and batters the cumulative odds of 300-1 that the Weymouth-born octopus defied to predict eight successive victories during the World Cup.

Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: "We knew our number was up when the shop told us of the news. This guy clearly has a unique talent as he's done it before. Paul the Octopus's feats are nothing but tiddlers compared to what our guy has done. It's an incredible win and we salute our very first shop millionaire.
