£100bn boost forwind turbines

Gordon Brown will launch a £100bn programme to build thousands of offshore wind turbines in a bid to meet the UK's renewable energy targets.

The Prime Minister is expected to award a raft of development contracts later this week to consortia who will build a new generation of offshore wind farms, mainly in the North Sea. The biggest site is expected to be at the Dogger Bank sandbank, 100km off the East Coast, which could power 10 million homes.
