£13m football stadium will create 130 jobs for town

AROUND 130 jobs are set to be created at Chesterfield FC's new £13m football stadium when it opens in July.

The Spireites' new b2net stadium at Whittington Moor will provide new positions for matchday staff and catering professionals when recruitment starts shortly.

A further 30 jobs in health, fitness and education will also be created when the Midlands Co-operative Community Stand becomes fully operational in 2011.

Chesterfield FC chief executive Carol Wilby said: "We are aiming to make the b2net stadium the premier venue in north Derbyshire and we will be looking for highly motivated staff who will also share that vision."

The new conference and banqueting suites at the ground will serve up to 300 guests and will also be used for a variety of corporate events. Catering staff for both kitchen and front of house operations, including bar staff, are set to be recruited.

On matchdays, the venue will provide Chesterfield FC with corporate hospitality facilities as well as catering and bar services in each stand.

The 10,500-seater stadium will also need additional matchday stewards, cleaners and bar and kiosk assistants.

Chesterfield Council leader Ray Russell said: "The move from Saltergate to the new site will not just provide better facilities for the club and fans but it will be a resource for the wider community to use and benefit from.

"The council's cabinet believes the football club promotes Chesterfield as a place to live and work as well as providing a strong local sporting focus."

Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes added: "The new b2net stadium is absolutely fantastic and I congratulate everyone involved."
