£1.8m surgery to train future medics

DOCTORS, nurses and other care workers are set to be trained at a new £1.82m GP surgery which opened in Sheffield this week.

White House Surgery on Fairfax Rise, Manor, has replaced the former surgery of the same name on Prince of Wales Road.

The surgery is the only pilot site in Sheffield for the Advanced Training Practices scheme, which aims to train health professionals from several disciplines.

Currently it only involves doctors and nurses, but in the future it will be expanded to also include physiotherapists, social workers and pharmacists.

Practice manager Ken Staniland said: "The new surgery has now opened after 10 years in the planning and the whole team is pleased that we have excellent new facilities.

"We've had a very positive response from staff and patients who appreciate the modern building and the extra space.

"Seeing doctors learning and develop their skills and having the right facilities – such as more spacious consulting rooms, and meeting rooms where training can take place – is very rewarding."

White House Surgery also offers new services to patients that were previously available only in hospitals, such as skin tag and mole removals.
