£19,000 refurbishment keeps city's fish trail a fresh lure for tourists

A FISH trail guiding visitors through Hull's Old Town and waterfront has been revitalised, 18 years after it was launched.

City firm Seven Seas and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) have jointly funded the 19,000 refurbishment of the trail, which features more than 40 sculptures, including a shark in Whitefriargate, a lobster in Queen Victoria Square and a gurnard near Market Place.

Created by artist Gordon Young, the carvings and sculptures are estimated to have guided more than 400,000 people along the route since 1992.

A new guide containing a map of the trail, information on the sculptures and historical facts has been published and is available from the Hull Tourist Information Centre.

Adrian Hipkiss, brand manager at Seven Seas, said: "It's great to support and be part of the local community, especially to offer something that reinforces Hull's heritage and enables visitors to explore the city in an exciting and interesting way."
