£1m fishing lake with lodges approved

CONTROVERSIAL plans to create a fishing lake with 12 mobile homes in the Craven area have been given the go-ahead.

Farmers Jean and Robert Bradley resubmitted plans for the scheme, which will be located at Far Hey Farm, off Salterforth Lane. The plans include creating the fishing lake with 12 pegs, placing 12 lodges on site, laying out a service road, making access improvements and landscaping the area.

West Craven Area Committee refused the scheme earlier this year after claims that the proposed development would raise the ground level by more than two metres, making the site more prominent within the open countryside and the proposed holiday homes would be visually intrusive to the area.

Pendle Council received several objections from local people as well as Salterforth Parish Council, though committee members said they were pleased the applicants had addressed their concerns.

Agent Alan Kinder said: “The scheme has been granted permission at the second time of asking. Pendle Council had concerns over technical aspects and visibility but these were addressed.

“At the moment the are some more detailed costings which need to be done but hopefully construction work will start next spring if the necessary finance can be raised to take it forward.

“Mr and Mrs Bradley are effectively in farming and this scheme is a diversification project. The fishing lake is specifically for visitors to the lodge development, there will be no day passes.

“There’s quite a strong market in short breaks and the idea is that people will visit for say four days during the week or a long weekend. I think it will be a good thing in terms of Pendle promoting tourism. Beyond the construction phase the development should create one to two full time jobs.”

“In general terms, the majority of the issues have been overcome,” said Earby councillor, Chris Tennant.
