£1m lottery raffle win boost for disabled couple

Great-grandparents Marie and Roy Dean of Crossgates struck lucky on Tuesday’s Millionaire Raffle.

Mrs Dean, 75, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and has had a triple heart bypass, survived two heart attacks last year.

Her husband Roy, 79, suffered the latest in a series of strokes in 2013 and spent two months in hospital.

Mrs Dean, whose last job was working at a children’s nursery in East End Park, Leeds, said: “ With all this money, I just wish we could buy a bit better health. But it will go a long way to helping it.

“Everybody is so thrilled for us.”

The couple’s medical problems mean neither is allowed to fly, but they are planning to use some of the cash to take holidays in the UK.

They also have no plans to move out of their rented council bungalow and want to stay close to family and friends.

But the retired couple do want to put a new kitchen and are looking into the possibility of buying the property.

Mrs Dean said: “I’m going to see my family is all right. This money means me and my husband can finish our days without any problems.

“We had a horrendous 2013 year last year, but we are starting 2014 off well.”

The couple have three children – Gaynor, 42, Joanne, 46, and Stephen, 57.
