£250m Sheffield homes plan may be speeded up

More than 60 new homes could be built on the site of former council flats as the second phase of a £250m investment in housing gets underway in Sheffield.

Construction was not set to start on the Earl Marshal site in Fir Vale until 2015 but Sheffield Housing Company (SHC) said it was considering ways to bring it forward.

Design and development work is about to start and consultation with residents could begin early next year, it said.

The new homes will be among 2,300 that SHC – a partnership between the council, regeneration specialist Keepmoat and Great Places Housing Group – aims to build over the next 15 years.

Coun Talib Hussain (Lab, Burngreave) said: “Local people and councillors have been waiting a long time to see houses built on this site so this is great news I am sure will be welcomed by the community.”
