£2.9m gallery hailed as celebration of children

A NEW £2.9m gallery which will show children how their bodies work will help them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives, according to the head of learning at a Yorkshire museum.

The All About Me gallery will open at Eureka, the National Children’s Museum, on Friday, March 29, marking the end of the biggest revamp in the Halifax venue’s 21-year-history. School visits will start in April.

Head of learning Liz Smallman said: “All About Me celebrates children as confident individuals who can lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.

“Multi-sensory, hands-on exhibits encourage them to explore how their body works and playful imaginative spaces and activities invite them to enjoy and
understand how unique they
are.”

She said the gallery was designed for children up to seven and linked well with the national curriculum. It has been supported by a £1.45m grant from the Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation.
