£2m Lottery win ensures jump up property ladder

The mother of a EuroMillions lottery winner joked “at last he’s moving out” as she helped celebrate her son’s £2m windfall.

Oliver Milner, 27, said he is using part of his £1,944,322 win to buy his first home and move out of his mother’s house in Hessle, near Hull.

He only bought his ticket – for six “lucky dips” – at the last minute when he was in a Tesco garage last month, and because of the queue only got hold of his numbers seconds before the 7.30pm deadline.

Mr Milner, who did not realise he had won until the next day, told a Press conference at a hotel in Willerby that he was still coming to terms with his win, but was also planning to buy BMW X6 to go with the 1 series he already owns, and a Manchester United season ticket.

He was sitting next to his mother, Dianne Walker, who said: “It’s every parent’s dream to know that their children are financially secure for the rest of their lives, hopefully. I’m delighted. And at last he’s moving out.”

Asked about how he felt when he found out, Mr Milner said: “I was in shock. It’s what dreams are made of. I asked my mum to check and she thought I was joking. I’m still in shock now.”

Mr Milner, who has resigned from his job as a customer adviser at npower, plans a family holiday after he has taken his friends to New York to celebrate his 28th birthday later this month.

He matched five numbers and one Lucky Star in the draw on August 10.
