£32,000 in grants to boost festivals

The biggest beneficiary is the Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival, which gets £12,000, while the Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival receives £9,500, and £5,500 goes to the Beverley Chamber Music Festival.

In total, grants worth £57,000 are being given to nine arts organisations this year.

Two events in Bridlington were among the other recipients, with £7,500 for the Musicport world music festival at Bridlington Spa, and £5,000 for Bridlington Arts Festival.

Jane Evison, portfolio holder for cultural services, said: “The council feels it is very important to protect grants to arts organisations, which are valuable both to the local economy and to the people who access them.

“These grants provide value for money as they attract visitors to areas like Beverley and Bridlington as well as providing an ideal platform for volunteering.

“The council has received a great amount of positive feedback for retaining this funding and is working closely with those groups who have missed out.”
