£600 bill for lorry driver who threw a sausage out of his window

A LORRY driver must pay out more than £600 after he was spotted throwing a sausage out of his cab window.

David Higham, 51, was seen by environment officials tossing the half-finished sausage from his lorry in a lay-by at Ainley Top roundabout in West Yorkshire, just off the M62.

The driver, of Irlam, Manchester, was given a fixed penalty notice of 75 by Kirkless council officers, but he failed to pay, and also failed to appear before Huddersfield magistrates, who found him guilty in his absence.

Higham was fined 175 and ordered to pay 429 court costs plus a 15 victim surcharge.
