£70,000 brings play area back to life

Children have begun enjoying new equipment at a play area, which is part-way through an extensive makeover.

Sculcoates Park, off Beverley Road in Hull, has been transformed from a "sleepy hollow" after a 70,000 revamp with more investment on the way. New features include a floodlit basketball court, a cycle track, a roundabout and climbing frame, and a natural play area featuring wooden stepping stones, boulders and rocks.

Funding came from the city council plus grants of 56,000 from Playbuilder and 10,500 from the Big Lottery. The park will be officially reopened on Friday by Lord Mayor of Hull Coun Karen Woods. She said: "Now it's bright, exciting and an asset to the neighbourhood." Pupils at nearby Stepney Primary School helped choose the layout and equipment. Picture: Terry Carrott.
