£83m boost for stalled house plans

MILLIONS of pounds has been approved to get work under way on building plans hit by the recession.

Projects to receive a share of 83m in Government funding or loans include 62 homes in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, 62 in Barnsley and 30 in Halifax.

It is the second wave of projects to receive support under the "kickstart" scheme after housebuilding ground to a virtual standstill.

Housing Minister John Healey, MP for Wentworth, said the Government investment would build much-needed affordable homes, keep people in work and give the young a chance of apprenticeships.
