Pub job-hunters shocked to get ‘you’re no good’ emails

A pub near Doncaster was inundated with complaints after angry job applicants demanded an explanation for the messages.

Now police are investigating after they were called in by the owners who believe their computer was hacked into and the emails sent out in their name.

The automated message, which was transmitted to more than 100 people, read: “Unfortunately you are not good enough for this position at this time, try harder next time.

“I am sorry for the disappointing news. But what did you expect, your (sic) no good.”

Paul and Tracy Snow, who run the Owston Park Lodge at Askern, contacted the police, after the message was sent in their name to people who had applied online for jobs at the pub restaurant.

Mrs Snow said: “We want to put people’s minds at rest that this appears to be a malicious prank and we are deeply sorry for any offence the emails have caused.

“The police are investigating and we think our system has been hacked and these messages sent out. It has been very upsetting and stressful for everyone involved.

“The first I knew was on Monday morning when calls were coming through in a torrent and people were very upset.”

Jobseeker Michaela Brookes, 23, woke up to find the message on her mobile.

She said: “I have had knockbacks for jobs before but I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It seemed so cruel. I couldn’t believe someone would say something like that.”

The pub has now posted an apology on its website and the owners are trying to track down everyone who received the offensive email.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed an investigation was underway.
