Pub owners enjoy double success

The Lion and Key in High Street, Hull, which returned to its original name last year, and Walters, a stone’s throw away in Scale Lane, owned by Alan Murphy and Chrissy Fleming, took top honours in the contest run by the Hull and East Riding branch of Camra.

The Lion and Key offers up to six real ales and four ciders and/or perries, while Walters, “a haven in an area in the Old Town that is overpopulated by fashion bars”, offers an impressive 10 real ales and six ciders.

Acting Branch Chairman Angela Cawte will present framed certificates to the licensees during a “Presentation Crawl” which will call in at all the nominees. She said: “The prize is decided anonymously by volunteer members who judge from a shortlist of previously nominated pubs, without the judges’ contribution the prize could not be given, and I extend my thanks to those who made this award possible.”

The Hop and Vine in Albion Street, Wellington Inn in Russell Street and Ye Olde Black Boy in High Street were the runners-up.
