Two men aged 25 and 36 have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They have been released on police bail to allow for further police inquiries.

Detective Constable Jezz Pratt, of Scarborough CID, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who knows where the tiger is now so that it can be reunited with its rightful owner, as it has a great deal of sentimental value.

“I am particularly keen to hear from the owners of second-hand shops who may have been offered the statuette.”

Anyone who can help the owner should contact DC Jezz Pratt on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12110074372, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
