Public to deliver verdict as Ofsted-style inspections begin of hospitals

People can give their views on two major hospitals in the region as part of new in-depth inspections which aim to give a more detailed picture of the quality of care than ever before.

Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary are among the first to be inspected under the new Care Quality Commission regime.

In October last year the CQC made snap inspections on wards at both hospitals after receiving “concerning information” about services.

Most patients and their
relatives were complimentary about care, but inspectors uncovered failings in the way procedures to ensure patients were safeguarded were implemented and in the care and welfare of patients.

The latest inspections start on February 4 and will result in Ofsted-style school ratings of “outstanding”, “good”, “requires improvement” and “inadequate”.

Chief Inspector Prof Sir Mike Richards said: “The new inspections are designed to provide people with a clear picture of the quality of the services in their local hospital, exposing poor or mediocre care as well as highlighting the many hospitals providing good and excellent care.”

Two “listening” events are being held at the Guildhall, Hull, and at Staff House, Hull University, on Monday, February 3, at 6.30pm. People can give their experiences of care, suggest recommendations and find out more about the inspection process.
