Public given say on Dales housing

A SERIES of public meetings are being organised over the critical shortage of affordable housing in the Yorkshire Dales.

A network of sites have been identified to help alleviate the need for cheaper properties as the Dales remains one of the most sought-after locations in the country for holiday homes.

The public meetings will comprise a presentation about the context, objectives and proposed policies in a draft housing plan, followed by a question and answer session.

The national park authority launched a housing working group last year which called on organisations and individuals to put forward potential sites.

More than 140 locations were suggested, and a shortlist of 38 have gone out for consultation.

The first public meeting will be held at the authority's Yoredale offices in Bainbridge on Monday, July 5, and the second at Grassington Town Hall on Thursday, July 15. The third will be at the People's Hall in Sedbergh on Monday, July 19, and all three events will run from 7pm to 9pm.
