Public image of politics scrutinised

THE expenses scandal, the television debates and the promise of a "new politics" has seen MPs facing greater scrutiny than ever before.

Now a Yorkshire academic is to launch a research project on the public image of Westminster and how it compares with other parliaments.

Dr Cristina Leston-Bandeira of Hull University's politics department, has been awarded an Economic and Social Research Council grant to focus on Westminster and others in Scotland, France, Portugal and Europe.

Dr Leston-Bandeira is interested in the relationship between parliaments and citizens and how the internet has transformed it. Her study aims to find out how the content of each parliament's website is managed.
