Public wants to have its say over Press regulation

Most people believe politicians should be kept out of Press regulation, according to an opinion poll.

The survey by Survation showed that 67 per cent of people believe the new Press regulation system should be set up in a way that does not give politicians the final say if and when changes need to be made, which is the basis of the Independent Royal Charter proposal.

Almost 53 per cent said they see local newspapers as a positive force in their community and 76 per cent believe the Royal Charter should be subject to public consultation.
