FARMWORKERS making preparations for a Hallowe’en spectacular yesterday took delivery of thousands of pumpkins which will be given away to visitors.

Cannon Hall Farm, at Cawthorne near Barnsley, is open to the public, and staff said 5,000 pumpkins had already arrived for their half-term pumpkin festival, which will run all next week.

Farmer Robert Nicholson said that every child who visited the farm between this Sunday and next Sunday, which is Halloween, will be shown how to make a pumpkin lantern.

He added: ”We thought it would be great fun for the children to make their own lantern. Our staff will be on hand to offer advice.”

Mr Nicholson said other activities available for children during the week will include face painting, Hallowe’en glitter tattoos, mask making and a harvest-themed farm quiz.

He added that the farm’s other attractions, which include farm animals and an adventure playground for children, and a farm shop and tea room for adults would all be open as usual.

Entry to the pumpkin festival costs 4.95 per person, but the price includes a pumpkin for each visitor. For more details about the event call Cannon Hall Farm on 01226 790427.
