Pupils bring a touch of Victorian colour as festival returns to park

PUPILS from Saltaire's three primary schools will bring a bit of colour to this year's Saltaire Festival.

This year, almost 1,000 children from Saltaire Primary, Wycliffe C of E and St Walburga's will take over Roberts Park, which is back to its Victorian splendour after a 4.5m refurbishment.

Schools' celebration organiser Hattie Townsend said the afternoon of Thursday, September 16, promised songs, dancing and fun for all.

She said yesterday: "Nearly a thousand children from the three Saltaire primary schools dressed in Victorian costume will gather in Roberts Park, where actors will re-enact the original opening of what was then called Saltaire Park by Sir Titus Salt and members of his family in 1871."

The 2010 Saltaire Festival runs between September 9-19.

Full details of this year's programme will go live on the festival website in the next few weeks – www.saltairefestival.co.uk
