Pupils keep up green work for Eco Challenge project

pupilS who took part in Eco Challenge were in their school grounds yesterday continuing the work by improving a pond, carrying out a water survey and creating log piles.

Tong High School is one of 23 schools in Bradford and 245 schools across the UK that successfully participated in Eco Challenge.

The Eco Challenge project, managed by Field Studies Council (FSC), an environmental education charity, and supported by a grant of £2m from the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces programme, worked with over 6,600 young people aged 11-14, in Key Stage 3. The project provided them with an opportunity to take part in a three-night residential in a remote Field Studies Council centre.

The programme was specially developed to combine adventure and outdoor activities with practical environmental skills followed by sessions in the school grounds or local community to put these newly acquired skills and knowledge to use.

The group of Tong High School students, from years eight and nine, embarked on a three-night residential at Castle Head Field Studies Centre, in Cumbria, in February, discovering new environments and learning how they can be looked after in the future. They returned to school determined to build on skills learnt on the course.
