Pupils kick off to net cash for cancer charity

Pupils from Manston Primary School, in Crossgates, Leeds, tested Leeds United shot-stopper Casper Ankergren at a penalty shoot-out yesterday to support for CLIC Sargent's Kick for Children with Cancer campaign.

The goalkeeper shared his penalty-stopping tips as the pupils lined up to take spot kicks against the Whites' star.

Young people from schools and football clubs across the country have been taking part in the campaign to raise money to pay for clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.

Manston Primary School has held similar events for the past five years and the West Riding County Football Association also supports the fundraising initiative.

CLIC Sargent was formed in 2005 when the Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood charity merged with another charity for children with cancer set up in memory of the conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent – and more about the history, their current work and activities has been posted on their website – www.clicsargent.org.uk.
