Pupils pitch in with ideas for forest

PUPILS from four Hull primary schools are learning how to become ethical entrepreneurs as they step up their bid to protect a rainforest.

Teams from Sutton Park, St Thomas More, Oldfleet and Parkstone primaries have each been given £125 from Barclays Bank to start up a business.

Any profit they make will go towards the One Hull of a Rainforest project. The charity was started by teachers who visited Ecuador in 2010 with the goal of buying part of a rainforest and educating the children of Hull about sustainability.

The project aims to raise £250,000 to buy nearly 250 acres in the heart of the Maquipucuna Reserve.

Each team has been assigned a business mentor by the bank and they will put their ideas to senior bank staff and other business leaders in Hull in an event similar to the TV show Dragons Den on Thursday next week.

The schools are also competing against each other to come up with the best idea and see who can make the most profit.

The reserve is one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the world, but it is threatened by development and tree logging.
