SCORES of children from schools in North and West Yorkshire performed in concert yesterday after less than a day of rehearsals.

More than 140 pupils from seven junior and primary schools in the Harrogate and Wetherby areas came together yesterday morning to begin the rehearsals before performing a concert in the afternoon.

The audience included parents of members of the choir as well as children from Ashville Junior School in Harrogate, which hosted yesterday’s Choral Day. The inaugural Choral Day was held last year.

Ashville Junior School’s headteacher, Jonathon Dolman, said: “The aim of the Choral Day is for the pupils from the seven schools to work together to give a first-class performance in the afternoon.

“There is nothing better than a group of children singing their hearts out. Music is a wonderful medium for breaking down barriers, and from experience we know the Choral Days we host achieve just that.”

The schools this year included St Joseph’s Primary School in Wetherby and Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings Primary School. Pupils from Harrogate attend Pannal Primary School, Rossett Acre Primary School and Bilton Grange Primary School as well as Oatlands Junior School and Ashville Junior School.
