Pushchair pair killed in car crash named

Two children who died after their pushchairs were caught up in a car crash have been named by police.

A one-year-old boy, Oliwier Baczyk, of Leicester, died yesterday afternoon and a two-year-old girl, Zofia Tabaka, also of Leicester, died during the night, Leicestershire Police said.

Two pedestrians who were with the children at the time of the crash, both men aged 29 and 28, suffered minor injuries.

It is not yet clear how the children and adults came to be involved in the collision.

A 40-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man were arrested in connection with the incident, at the junction of Narborough Road and Braunstone Gate in Leicester at 9.52am yesterday. They have since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said the accident involved a dark BMW and a red Mini Cooper.

Florist Anna Jadav was one of the first on the scene after hearing an “almighty bang” .

She told the newspaper: “I looked round and saw there had been accident between two cars. I ran over expecting to try to help some grown-ups, but was faced with two very little children lying on the road.

“It was a horrible sight and one I will never forget.”
