Putting best foot forward for trail

A NEW heritage trail has been created in a bid to boost tourism in Huddersfield town centre.

The Huddersfield Heritage town centre trail will be launched on Saturday with walks from St George’s Square at 10am and 10.30am guided by local experts. The tour is free and all are welcome.

The trail can be followed with a free colour guide and map available from local libraries and information centres. The guide gives both visitors and local people an introduction to the features and history of the town.

The initiative has been developed by a partnership of Huddersfield Civic Society and Huddersfield Local History Society with funding from the Huddersfield Area Committee of Kirklees Council.

This leaflet offers a walking tour of the main features of interest in the town centre and takes in sights including St George’s Square and the Lawrence Batley Theatre. The Heritage Trail is being developed further with an interpretation board in St George’s Square, building plaques are being designed and phone apps are being considered. Other Huddersfield town centre trails are being prepared.
