Control room duty manager Paul Richardson said: “Three quad bikes were travelling through the wooded area at Settring Beacon, near Malton.

“One of the riders, a 35-year-old local man, has lost control of his machine on an approach to a bend and has been in collision with a tree.

“As a result of this collision, he sustained chest and head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Mr Richardson said a police investigation was under way and he appealed for witnesses to come forward.
