Queen’s chaplain takes new role as Bishop of Beverley

THE new Bishop of Beverley was ordained bishop yesterday in a special service at York Minster led by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

The Rev Canon Glyn Webster leaves his role as Canon Chancellor at the Minster, a position he has held since 2003, to take up his new post, where he succeeds the Rt Rev Martyn Jarrett.

The Bishop of Beverley is a Suffragan Bishop to the Archbishop of York in the Province of York.

The bishop’s role is that of Provincial Episcopal Visitor, assisting in the pastoral care of those parishes that have petitioned for Extended Episcopal Care under the Act of Synod – the Ordination of Women to the Priesthood (1993).

Mr Webster, a former nurse, is also Chaplain to the Queen.
