Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal design unveiled

The design of a new medal to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was unveiled yesterday along with details of who will receive one.

The emblem, which resembles a 10p piece on one side and bears the dates 1952-2012 on the other, is being launched to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Members of the armed forces, emergency services and prison service personnel are among those who will be awarded one.

Police community support officers who have completed five full calendar years of service will also be eligible, as well as living holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and members of the royal household.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre on a long weekend next year from June 2 to 5. Buckingham Palace will co-ordinate a programme of events on these dates including a big Jubilee lunch and a pageant on the River Thames.
