Racecourse saddles up for improvements

Full details of the project, which will see the northern end of the course redeveloped, will be revealed in an exhibition.

A Knavesmire spokesman said: “In essence its looking at a plan for the northern end of the racecourse to create better facilities for the world class horses and those who look after them.

“Its a fairly significant scheme and we just want to talk to people about it.”

The racecourse owners want to integrate saddling boxes, a pre-parade ring, parade ring, wash down area and a new weighing–in building.

They also say the plans would involve realigning the existing northern perimeter wall

They are keen to hear what neighbours and racegoers have to say before any application for planning permission is made.

Since the 1990s, investment at the racecourse has seen the £10m development of the Knavesmire Stand and the £20m transformation of the Ebor Stand.

On Wednesday evening there will be a private display for invited residents and others in the press room at the Racecourse.

The display will then be open to the public on Thursday from 9am until 7pm, on Friday from 9am until 5pm, and again the following Monday and Tuesday, November 12 and 13, from 9am until 6pm.
