Radio debut for sports pair in sexism row

Andy GRAY and Richard Keys made their radio debut yesterday, but failed to mention the Sky Sports sexism row that saw them lose their jobs.

The pair, who will present a regular show on talkSPORT between 10am and 1pm, did not take calls from the public and instead spoke to a succession of managers, players and former players, including Dion Dublin, Jamie Carragher and Avram Grant.

They appeared briefly on Alan Brazil’s breakfast show before their own show began and were greeted by the former Tottenham star who joked: “I never thought I’d see you here.”

Keys told Brazil he was looking forward to the show, saying: “I can have an opinion, rather than just ask questions.”

Talking about his new bosses, he said: “They’ve let the genie out of the bottle.”

Gray told Keys it was “nice to be back working, talking about football again” before discussing the failing fortunes of his former club, Everton.

They were joined in the studio by former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins and talkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface.

Matterface, a former Sky Sports News presenter, told a national newspaper Gray was not “very popular among the people he worked with” when news of the sexism row emerged but neither man mentioned it yesterday.

Keys resigned and Gray was fired from Sky Sports over the sexism row.

The pair believed their microphones were switched off when they were heard questioning whether assistant referee Sian Massey knew the offside rule.

Gray was sacked after footage posted on YouTube showed him asking a female colleague to help him tuck his microphone into his trousers.

More footage emerged later in which Keys appeared to speak in lewd terms about an ex-girlfriend of pundit Jamie Redknapp.

One of the men they replaced on talkSPORT, Mike Parry, will present BBC Radio 5 Live’s football call-in show, 606, this Saturday, as a stand-in for Mark Chapman.
