Raider grabs cash from security guard and flees through Dewsbury

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a security guard was robbed and cash stolen from the HSBC bank in Market Place, Dewsbury.

At around 2:15pm yesterday a security guard was delivering cash inside the bank when a man approached him from behind and made a grab for a bag of money being removed from a cashbox.

The suspect ran from the bank with a bag containing a large amount of cash.

He and two accomplices then drove off at speed from Bond Street in Dewsbury town centre, in a silver coloured car, believed to have been a VW Passat, before making a U -turn on Dewsbury Ring Road in front of the railway station.

The silver car then hit a red car, causing minor damage before making off. A VW Passat was later found abandoned in the Meadow Lane area of Dewsbury. It was stolen from the Tudor Croft area of Huddersfield last week.

The suspect is described as an mixed race or Asian man, 6'3"-6'4" tall, well built and dressed in a dark coloured hooded top over which was worn a green military style short jacket, dark trousers and shoes.

He was wearing a light coloured baseball cap and was seen in the banking hall shortly before the robbery took place.
