Rail death causes delays on Yorkshire-bound trains

Four lines from King’s Cross station were closed after the death at Alexandra Palace, causing cancellations and delays of up to one hour, according to Network Rail.

Services to Stevenage, Hitchin, Peterborough, Grantham, Doncaster, Leeds, York, Hull and Cambridge were affected.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “There are severe delays out of King’s Cross because of a reported fatality at Alexandra Palace at about 5pm. Four lines out of six lines are closed going through Alexandra Palace while the emergency services do their work.”

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “BTP officers were called to the line near to Alexandra Palace rail station following a report of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and the London Ambulance Service attended the incident, which was reported to police at 4.46pm and the body of a person was discovered.

“Inquiries are continuing to establish the identity of the person and the circumstances leading up to the person’s death.”

He said a file would be prepared for the coroner.
